Montessori of Macon’s toddler classrooms are carefully planned to meet the needs of the young child ages 18 months to 35 months. The environment is designed to foster exploration, independence, sense of order and freedom of choice/movement. Areas of learning are defined, yet the space is open to allow plenty of room for social interaction and activities required for growth and development, including large muscle movement and fine motor skills. Practical life exercises such as pouring, sweeping, dusting, buttoning, zipping and table setting are introduced early. Both children and families are supported while toddlers become independent in the area of toilet training. Practical life lessons, as well as toilet training, provide opportunities for children to care for themselves and their environment. Lessons of grace and courtesy are practiced daily to help toddlers learn to share things and to be considerate of others. Our toddler programs are directed by trained Montessori teachers. The adults in the classroom provide a sense of security, nurturance and loving care that toddlers need to thrive during this stage of development.
